Cookies
Six small files, and only one of them is up to you. This page lists every one by the name it is actually stored under, so you can go and look.
Some cookies are needed for the site to work at all — to keep you signed in, to remember the currency you asked for, and to remember what you told us about cookies. Those are set without asking, because without them there is no site to use. One cookie is for analytics, it is not set unless you say yes, and everything here works exactly the same if you say no.
There are no third-party cookies on this site. No advertising network, no social widgets, no cross-site tracking. Our analytics run on Matomo, which we host ourselves.
| Name | What it is for | How long | Do we ask? |
|---|---|---|---|
al_session |
Keeps you signed in while you are using the site, and carries the token that protects forms from being submitted from another site. | 2 hours, or until you sign out | Strictly necessary |
al_remember |
Signs you back in on a device where you asked to be remembered. It holds a random token, not your password. | 180 days | Strictly necessary |
al_currency |
Remembers that you asked to see prices in euros, pounds or dollars, so we stop guessing from your location. | 1 year | Preference |
al_consent |
Records the choice you made about the analytics cookie, so we do not ask again on every page. | 1 year | Strictly necessary |
al_age |
Records that you confirmed you are 18 or over, so age-restricted material does not ask again on every visit. It holds a signed timestamp and nothing about you. | 30 days | Strictly necessary |
al_visitor |
A random analytics id, with no name or email attached, so we can tell one visit from two. Only set if you accept. | 90 days | Your choice |
Changing your mind
You have not made a choice yet. You can make one here, and change it whenever you like.
Doing it in your browser instead
Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies, usually under privacy settings. Blocking the four marked strictly necessary above will stop you being able to sign in or complete a purchase — that is not us being awkward, it is what those cookies are.
What the analytics cookie is not
It is not tied to your name, your email address or your account. It is not shared with anyone. It is not used to build a profile of you, to target advertising, or to follow you onto another site. The events it belongs to are deleted after 90 days — see the privacy page for the full retention list.
